Tomorrow is my Art Gallery Day!
I'm really stoked on preparing the homework sheet for Sol. Rin & lil' redmesswill be joining us and they won't get away without completing a worksheet!
Tomorrow morning I'm facilitating the Clean Start group on my own, as my friend and coworker will be off. I love love love this group and I really like directing the check-ins and presenting topics. Clean Start is a dual-diagnosis (addiction/mental illness) support group at the rec centre I work at. The topic for this week is "communication." Tuesday's Clean Start also involves art, so as well as working on a collaborative piece, some of the members suggested that we sing to open our throats and unite as a group before gettin' down to our discussions.
I'm presenting this song, because it has a lot of good yelling at the end:
I didn't like the Dresden Dolls when I first heard them, and I was like "AAARRRNNNNG I'M GIVING BIRTH TO A PIIIIAAAANOOOO" Then I heard this song and I really like it. I still don't like any of their other songs though so ha ha. BUT I would like to see them live.
"Communication" is a really interesting topic for our group, because there are many who have never learned to listen or are not able to hold a conversation. We have a few members, that I really want to punch in the face because their way of communicating is so selfish and one sided, and they completely disregard and ignore feedback, and then fiddle and make noises of impatience when others are sharing. That being said, there are some members of our group that are amazing contributors and communicators, and listen well.
As a staff person, my role is to listen but sometimes I find it soooo difficult not to speak candidly, on a really personal level and share my experiences. And that's another aspect of communication in that group; these members are recovering addicts, and persons with mental illnesses. So much of their lives & rehabilitation has been spent talking and thinking about themselves,

I've been teaching ryan how to say "shut up betch!" he can't do it. it's so funny.
I want to start a band and make it sound like I was giving birth to a flute. way more mellow.
