When it comes to personal threats to your health, you have every right to call the shitstorm down on him. And should.

Linda can juggle them no problem and they are both aware of each other. She's feeling kinda bad for being so...'naughty'...but I think she's overreacting.

I think its kinda important that you put that guy in his place right now, from the start, first time he acts up.

Otherwise guys like that start to think they can get away with it and the whole situation gets worse and worse.

Check into local shelters for abused women. If at all possible try to convince her to check herself in. Do your best to get her away from her abuser. Now...she's probably not going to like that, and there may be some very hurtful and hateful things said. But she is your friend and sadly sometimes we have to go through horrible things for those we care about. But if you can help her get away from the abuse, it's worth the effort.

As a side note, any man who hits his woman is no longer a man, but merely an animal fit to be beaten.

I think what some other people have posted is the best. I'm not going to pretend I'm an expert on abusive relationships so go to the ones who really MIGHT have some decent advice. Use the hotlines, ask women's shelters, even contact a policewoman (ask specifically for a female officer - ALWAYS) working at a rape crisis center or something. It sounds extreme, but you don't know how extreme it could get.

The unfortunate thing is this situation is 50% your friend. The boyfriend isn't the entire problem. There is an issue of low self-esteem, self-hate in her that will even drive her to defend her boyfriend against the people who genuinely care about her. You know her best, she never had the best opinion of herself right? It hasn't been the easiest thing in the world for her to get a boy right? Even if it sucks it's better than nothing...that's the attitude right?

Dealing with the boyfriend is easy. A bully will respond to a bigger bully.

it's your friend who has a lot of personal work ahead of her. you could successfully get her away from this loser, but if SHE hasn't changed, she's just going to find herself another asshole and the whole cycle starts again. I say get her to hang out AWAY from her boyfriend as much as possible, get her happy AWAY from her boyfriend, build up her strength and self-confidence.

I meant that it would be nice, as in healthier for you, if you didn't have to go from one extreme to the other - when you find a middle ground. Having been on meds to cope with depression and mood swings, I know that it can suck when moods control your life. My heart goes out to you for everything you've been through. You'll kick those demon asses one of these days.

This probably won't make you feel any better, but one of my favorite authors once said something along the lines of this: depression is actually the most productive time we have because that is when we most clearly feel the pain of not yet having gotten the things we want. Therefore it is the time where you acquire the most perspective on your current trajectory, and also the most resolve and emotional leverage to get there.
