This morning as I walked in to the Plaid to buy a quick breakfast there was a cute blonde woman at the register paying for her giant can of Rockstar. She was wearing pink hospital scrubs but I guess she could have been a nurse or a dental hygienist or a vet for all I know. I noticed she had a curious necklace, like a choker but not quite a collar. I'm sure there's a technical name for that style but I don't now what it is. What was weird about it was that it looked like a long, thin, horizontally oriented, pendant that would normally be below the line of the necklace was above it. Weird.
I always eat the same things so I was at the register before she was finished. She smiled at me as she turned to walk out of the convenience store and I smiled back. That's when I noticed that the thing I thought was part of the necklace that was above the necklace was actually a wound. It was about an inch and a half above her collar bone and maybe a half inch above the necklace. Now that I think about it, she was probably wearing the necklace to slightly camouflage the wound. It was a bold dark line somewhere under four inches long with stitches running through it. Whatever had happened to her it was nice to see her smiling. Now that I have finished my can of Red Bull I'm wishing I had gotten a Rockstar instead.
