So I haven't blogged in a little bit (sorry about that lol) since we're in the final weeks of the semester. Well for tonight's blog I am going on a major rant about Star Wars Battlefront and the new DLC pack. I'm sorry but it has to be done it just has to, I must rant about this. Okay so Star Wars Battlefront already has a black mark in my book, not because it's a bad game in fact it's actually pretty fun and a good way to spend a night. The reason this game has a black mark is because it's a major ripoff from EA. EA has managed to once again find a way to scam gamers out of their money and they used our beloved Star Wars as a means to do it (NO IS NOTHING SACRED! THE SAVAGES!!!!!).
So truth is you aren't really getting the full game when you buy SWB for the base price (or whatever used price you pay). No the season pass is 100% essential to the game, you NEED the season pass otherwise you aren't playing Star Wars Battlefront but instead a glorified Beta. Well all of that aside because this isn't a review of Battlefront at all this is a rant about it's newest DLC the Outer Rim. Once again EA has scammed us and stuck the dagger in a little deeper with this new DLC. After paying 120 dollars all together for the whole game plus the season pass I was hopeful. I was hopeful that "hey maybe the DLC will include all the awesome stuff we want" right???? WRONG!!!!!! The DLC's maps for one are basically reduxes of the base maps with maybe a couple of changes. For example Twilight on Hoth is basically the base Hoth 12 player map except at night with some nice and pretty caves thrown in. However these maps aren't the biggest sin of this DLC. No that award is reserved for the heroes that we get to add to our very limited and tiny hero selection. I was hoping for some Force Awakens characters like Rey or Kylo Ren but do we get that???? NOOOOOOO we get Greedo and Nien Nunb. SERIOUSLY EA?!?!?! FUCKING GREEDO?!?!?! YOU GIVE US FUCKING GREEDO? WHY IN THE HELL DO I WANT TO PLAY AS THE ONE CHARACTER WHO HAN KILLED IN ONE BLOODY (yet awesome) SHOT?!??!?!?!? WHY? Not only do we get two horrible hero characters (although to be fair they are OP in some cases) but we don't get any new ships for fighter squadron. None whatsoever, I was hoping for Poe's X-wing or something but nope we still only get the same two hero ships we got before though no complaints as the Millennium Falcon and Slave-1 are awesome.
Now I do have to give credit where credit is due and say that not everything about the expansion is bad. In fact I quite like the Jabba Contracts. The Jabba Contracts are these little "skill challenges" that unlock new abilities and weapons. You pay Jabba a tribute and he gives you a "contract" to complete. Upon completing the selected contract you will receive a weapon or skill card. The new weapons are very fun and I quite like them more so than the original weapons. The new Jabba weapons feel more personal and I feel as though the blaster is more "signature" to me since I earned it via a completed challenge. The added DL models are a nice addition to the already included DL-44 blaster and it's nice to get earlier DL models such as the DL-18 (love this gun). The new modes are fun and add to the experience however it's not enough to make me not pissed that i spent over 100 dollars on this game. It also looks as though for new expansions we won't get any of the new movie content whatsoever. A look into the future expansion content promises Bespin (summer 2016) and The Death Star (fall 2016) and then a "secret untitled" DLC slated for early 2017. It's just that so far the content we are getting is not worth the money spent. The Jabba Contracts and the weapons are fun but truth be told those could've been put into the store for a couple bucks. I would've rather spent 5 or 6 bucks to buy the Jabba Contracts and added guns on the Playstation Store rather than the over a hundred on the season pass. You've really disappointed me EA and you've really taken advantage of people like me who love and adore Star Wars. You've used Star Wars a passion of ours to scam us out of money.
In all honesty what really scares me is that EA is probably going to go the route of Destiny and rerelease Battlefront next year for 60 bucks with all the DLC included, leaving us gamers who paid the hundred bucks screwed.
