Captain's log Stardate: 4/16/16 Noticed something interesting today.

Okay so today I noticed something weird and I felt the need to share it in my blog. This will also be the first "official" blog post i've done in awhile. For those of you who don't know I mark my blog posts as "Captain's Logs" and my other posts without the "Captain's log" title are just regular everyday shenanigan posts lol.

So today I noticed something weird while I was out and about. I went to eat lunch at this local restaurant here at Towns Square which for those of you who aren't locals is basically where all the rich people shop and eat. This particular restaurant however has a really nice and cheap happy hour and I just decided to sort of treat myself. Well I had an hour to kill before happy hour started and I decided to walk around the square. As I was walking around the square I noticed something from the people. These people were all very wealthy in fact every car was a Bugatti or a Bentley and every woman had immensely expensive purses and items but that's not what caught my attention. What caught my attention was that even though all these people were what we would define as successful they were all unhappy.

Every conversation was some sort of complaint or petty issue that they all had. While walking I overheard two women complaining about how they couldn't get some sort of expensive facial treatment done until tomorrow and another couple was complaining about the maid and their cleaning service. One man kept going on and on about how his Bentley wasn't the right color (not even kidding about that conversation). Everybody despite having all these wonderful toys were unhappy. When I finally made it to happy hour one very well do-to gentleman was extremely upset that the RUM bar didn't carry a particular type of whiskey.

This particular day just made me realize that even though you may be rich that doesn't necessarily mean you will be happy with all that money. It was funny because we are taught that money can't buy happiness and even the Beatles sung about that in Can't Buy Me Love but in essence we don't really believe it until we see it. It was funny to me because out of the hundreds of people that were in this place the only people who were truly happy were the tourists and the children. It gave me an epiphany though one that finally made me realize we don't need to be wealthy or rich to be happy. My particular career that i'm going into and my field of study is not particularly a "money making job". I'm going into Archaeology which has a maximum income of about 70k a year which won't allow me to buy any Bentleys. However i know i'll be doing what I love and I know i'll be truly happy. Maybe that's what we were put on this earth to do. Do what makes you happy not what makes other people happy. Maybe we weren't put on this earth to strive for millions or billions of dollars but instead to find a path that makes us truly happy. :)

When I used to work at the deli counter in a grocery store, the store was in a very rich neighborhood. All the women that would come in had huge 2-3 carat diamond engagement rings with matching diamond wedding bands, huge designer purses, nice clothes and cars. They got to stay home all day because their husbands made enough money that they didn't have to work. Some had kids, some didn't.  But when I first started working there, I really envied them. Until I started hearing them complain and see how unhappy they were, even though they had all these luxuries that I more than likely never will. It made me appreciate that even though I don't have much, I'm happy (for the most part) with what I have. @kyloren_sith I just thought it was funny how you noticed the same thing, all the way out by you!
