So I've lived in Las Vegas, Nevada my entire life and was actually born here (which is a rarity lol). People come to this city and they think that all we have is the strip and that's it. In fact most people miss the really cool parts of the city simply because they stay on the strip and never go anywhere else.
Las Vegas is a city that really actually caters to frequent visitors rather than the simple one in a blue moon tourist. What many people don't know is how much culture, art, and venues that Vegas has. In the past few years we've totally renovated our downtown and created multiple hangout spots where you can get a drink, dance, or just showcase your artwork.
We even have a bar called The Millennium Fandom Bar which caters to geeks and cosplayers!!!!! We have a few wonderful museums and great communities filled with wonderful people.
When people think of Vegas they don't think that we actually have communities of people that call this city home. We also have some wonderful lesser known hotspots that only locals and frequent visitors know about. We have this awesome joint called the Pinball Hall of Fame which is filled with nothing but retro pinball machines and games from as long ago as Pong to now.
Vegas also has probably one of the most beautiful national parks called Red Rock Canyon. Red Rock is naturally red due to high concentrations of Iron Oxide in the cliffs. The hiking and scenery is absolutely beautiful and the canyons are home not only to beautiful animals like Mountain Lions but also to a few Archaeological sites as well. Red Rock Canyon used to be home to the Anasazi indian tribe and a few signs of them still remain, including their cave drawings. After hiking we have this really nice place called Bonnie Springs Ranch which is one of the original settlements here in town. It's one of the few remaining old western towns and it's a great place to grab a drink at the saloon or a nice meal. (p.s. Ice Cream at the saloon was a dollar back in the 1890's and is still a dollar today).
Vegas is also home to some of the best artists in the world from DJ's to Tattoo artists to Painters and Graffiti artists. Every first Friday of each month the Arts District downtown turns into a major festival for artists to showcase their work and for people to purchase their art. We even had a really sweet Steampunk and Bondage exhibit downtown last year!!!!!!
