So I posted a few hours ago that I was rewatching Star Trek Voyager a bit. Well some really old memories from my city just resurfaced while scrolling through the internet. I saw some old pictures of the now defunct Star Trek Experience. So for those of you who aren't from Vegas or don't visit here frequently here's the story. So back in the early 2000's The Las Vegas Hilton (now currently the Westgate) had built a massive geek haven called The Star Trek Experience. In it was models and replicas from all of the shows starting with the Original Series and then ending with Deep Space Nine (they added Enterprise later). It had bars and rides and even themed attractions. In fact part of the casino was built to look exactly like it was from Star Trek. The monorail station was designed to look like Star Trek as well. They even had a bar, club, and restaurant all of which were Star Trek themed. Well sadly in 2008 the attraction closed permanently and they even had a closing ceremony in the style of a Starfleet Decommission ceremony. One of my biggest regrets (I'm only 21 okay people lol) was that I never ever went to the Star Trek experience. It wasn't until later in my teenage years that I started to like Star Trek. When I was a kid I never liked it but as I got older I liked it a little more. I've never been a trekkie and probably won't be lol but I do like Star Trek and enjoy watching it. I sort of wish I liked it as a kid enough to go see the attraction. Tonight was kind of weird because I didn't look the attraction up I just happened to bump into some old "relic" pictures of it. Before the renovation at Westgate (basically the elimination of anything "Hiltonesque" from the casino) there were still some old pieces from the attraction. In the middle of the casino the Warp drive remained though it was no longer functional and also some doors kept their Star Trek look. There were also some remaining control panels and even parts of the bar were still remaining. Sadly all that is gone now and I wish I had done it. I guess that proves if you have the opportunity and the chance to do something fun no matter how small you gotta do it. You never know when that door may close. There were talks to move the Experience but sadly those fell through. The Star Trek Experience is now lost in the Delta Quadrant forever.
