Growing Up Way To Fast!?!?!?!

So today i've noticed something, truth is i've noticed it for awhile now but sort of ignored it. I've notices that people are too obsessed with "being an adult" and "growing up". Tonight I was at Target and I noticed that kids weren't being kids but instead being forced by parents to act more like adults and like adult things. Now there is nothing wrong with being mature but I feel we should all have a bit of our childhood permanently left inside of us. I watched a program awhile ago and the particular episode I watched happened to be about Japan. Well the cultural differences are immense but one that I noticed was the "adult complex" i guess you could say. In Japan it's not as important to be an adult as it is here in America and other places. In Japan they keep a massive part of their childhood alive while we eliminate it. Now don't get me wrong they have jobs and work in offices but they keep a bit of their childhood. One lawyer I saw went to work in Nintendo garb and had posters and figures lining his room of Anime characters and videogame characters.

There is a district in Japan I believe in Tokyo called the (i'm gonna misspell this lol) Harijuku district. Well the entire district is lined with nothing but shops dedicated to Cosplay. Every shop has fashion dedicated to Anime shows and these are not clothes meant for a convention but everyday wear. Here (at least where I live) people are almost ridiculed for being obsessed with Anime or Video Games or Comic Books. Dressing up in something that resembles a character is something that is only for conventions and comic con. Why? Why can't we keep a bit of our childhood alive especially when there is so much evil and cruelty in this world. Now i'm not saying go out dressed like Iron Man every day (unless that's you thing in which case that is awesome lol) but let's keep a bit of our childhood alive.

I for one am obsessed with Doctor Who and Firefly so I wear my stuff proudly even if it's just an Independent's Flag pin or some suspenders. I know a lady who goes to work every day in Doctor Who cosplay and she's a college professor and her students LOVE IT! She's married and a very beautiful woman and she loves to keep her childhood and the joy alive. What is so wrong with that, that we always try to shut it down and be more "adult". Does loving Doctor Who and Firefly or Anime and Video Games make us not adults? I don't think so at all. Where did these set rules of how to be an adult come up? Did Martin Luther nail them onto the Catholic Church doors back in the 16th century underneath the Ninety Five Thesis? Like did underneath the Thesis lie a tiny little sticky note with the "Rules On How To Be An Adult"? I believe that we need to have a little innocence in our lives nay we MUST have a little bit of innocence in our lives with everything bad and horrible that goes on in this world. This is one of the reasons why I joined SG because of the geeky culture here. This is a site that celebrates enjoying the geeky things that you love and having that innocence. This site celebrates loving Star Wars, Collecting Comic Books, Playing Video Games. Let's keep our innocence by loving what we love and keeping our geeky interests alive. Ignore the hate because let's face it, without Star Wars, Video Games, Comic Books, and Cosplay, "adulthood" as society defines it would be pretty damn boring.
