Okay so I have a confession to make. I didn't just see this movie once, no in fact it was too good I had to see it for a second time just to make my geeky self happy (i didn't get home till 1am and it's now 2am). So I won't give you a plot rundown or any sort of summary because if I do that may spoil some key things that happen in this movie so i'll just give you my impressions on the film and tell you some of the things I loved and didn't like (don't worry there is really no negative stuff at all). So the first thing is this film feels really familiar even though it's a story we've never seen before. Mark Hamill put it best by saying "you've been here before but you don't know this story". The film brings old and new and melds it together in a way that just works. The film has all the action, comedy, heartache, tragedy, and romance that the original movies had and the amount of love put into this film shines through tremendously. You can tell this was a Star Wars made by fans for the fans. The acting is superb (especially from Kylo Ren's actor) and it really makes up for the horrible mechanical acting of the prequel trilogy. In fact this film takes the prequel trilogy and throws it out the window and never looks back on it again. The film is made for old and new so there is a lack of Easter Eggs which i'm very thankful for (i didn't want to see something from Revenge Of The Sith in there and have to remember what that was). The only true easter eggs are references to the original films in dialogue (which i'll let you discover by yourself). My favorite part of this film though has to be the lightsaber combat (don't worry no spoilers). We've finally returned to the grittiness and brutality of lightsaber combat. If you remember in the original films lightsabers were kind of scary. They were these things that cut through anything and everything and blasters couldn't stop them. When Vader would come at Luke it was brutal and when Luke would fight back with anger it was brutal. In the prequels they took that out for a bunch of backflips and twirling (Anakin twirling the lightsaber around his back is still one of the stupidest things i've ever seen in Star Wars to this day). Not in this film. In this movie the lightsaber combat is brutal and Kylo Ren's saber ups the combat from scary to just plain terrifying. You can almost feel the lightsabers connect with you and feel the shock in your hands from them connecting and sparking. Thank you J.J. for bringing brutal lightsaber combat back!
Now sadly I have to give some of the things I didn't like about the film but don't worry it's not a lot. So the first thing is the lack of certain character appearances. Some characters were really hyped during interviews, press releases, etc but in the film they only appear maybe once or twice (you'll see who i'm referring to in the film). Another thing is this film answers questions but it raises more than it answers. Now this film is a trilogy so they have to leave a lot of stuff for VIII and IX which I understand but I wish they could've given us slightly more character backgrounds than they did. For example one character who was very much kept on the wraps raises so many more questions than are answered. In fact if J.J. Abrams had told us everything that this character does in the film and all his dialogue he still wouldn't have spoiled the film; because this character raises more questions and answers very little. Again I understand that there are two more films coming out plus loads of side films (A Han Solo film, Rogue One, A Boba Fett one is rumored as well). Anyhow all and all I love the film and the cons are not enough at all to lower my score so i give the film an A++ it's a must see!!!
