I put some work into my 100 yard shooting range today. I took down portions of three fences that were in the way, cut down five (small) trees, and attempted to dig up some fence post but gave up in the face of the Alabama heat. I can just bend them out of the way anyway. Fucking heat.

I'll take some pictures when it's finished. I've still got to measure out the distance correctly and put up my temporary backstop. I'm thinking of putting some work into a permanent backstop either my old fashioned muscle power or possibly renting a bobcat to move some dirt around.

I'll be back at work tomorrow, so it'll probably be next weekend before I"m back at it.

Edited to say: I had to make a trip to the store and decided to pick up a 100 yards of twin so I could walk off the distance on my new range. I did that and set up my temporary backstop (hay bales back by old tires on the rim). For all intents and purposes it's finished! I'm going to refine it a little as I go, but it's ready for shooting. That may happen tomorrow assuming the weather holds out. biggrin

I am assuming that you will have to register for and take classes as an apprentice in your state. If your state has two different licenses (residential and commercial) like my state did, make sure you sign up for commercial. No matter what. Dont let anyone talk you out of it. The typical argument is...I will become a journeyman in half the time, and hence make journeyman wages. We'll, I'll tell ya, I am licensed in 5 states and typically make almost double what a residential journeyman makes (though I do earn more than most commercial/industrial electricians that I work side by side with as well). A residential electrician can only work on houses and appartments. A commercial/industrial electrician can work on everything: from houses to nuclear plants.

The state I live in now only has one license, so pay is comensurate with the type of work you do, and where your past experience lies. For states that have multiple licenses, if you were trained strictly as a residential electrician, you can not cross the boundary to commercial/industrial without starting your school over from scratch.
