I spent most of my breaks last night listening to music on my iPod and reading philosophy. You see, I'm a philosophy major when I can actually afford to go to school (which hasn't been often lately). I really love philosophy, but not so much the academic environment which surrounds it. I like school, I like learning, but I hate being treated like a child when I'm a grown fucking man.
Anyway, I was reading this book from my Philosophy 100 class I took a few years ago because I never really did get a grasp of the basics all that well and I've spent most of my classes not knowing what the fuck was going on half the time. The book is good. Everything is there, and fairly easy to grasp. I think my teacher failed to utilize the text. We didn't get a real introduction to philosophy. Since the department isn't that big there are not too many classes that really allow you to gradually immerse yourself. You just have to kind of jump in feet first and hope for the best.
Well, that sucks. I did well for a long time, but I wasn't really retaining much of what I was supposed to be learning because I kept getting stuck on terminology and different schools of philosophical thought. I decided this past summer that I should at least re-read some of my early text so that maybe I could find my footing again. So far I think things are going well. If I can get the money together for classes I should do just fine.
