Fred, the Alarm Cat.

I have to say... my cat is unusual. If you've ever seen Simon's Cat (http://bit.ly/9qZOYA), he wakes up Simon in the way a lot of people expect and identify with. Fred, however, is much kinder when it comes to waking me up. I typically get up at around 7 am every morning. Fred knows this because ... that's when I feed him. He's very gentle and kind in the way that he goes about getting me up, however. This morning it started with him laying down next to my arm, purring and licking my hand. So I started talking to him. "Good morning, Fred". And he just lays there next to me purring. I dozed back off. After about 5 minutes, he runs off and brings back one of his toys (toy = random, wadded up piece of paper) and literally places it in my hand and does his little 'chirp'. Then he taps arm with his paw. "Wake up, dad!" I imagine him saying. "Ok...ok..." I throw the toy off the bed, he runs off and fetches it for me. We did this 3 or 4 times and then I got up.

I have to say... As annoying as Fred is sometimes, he is the best alarm clock in the world. I wake up happy.
