Well, I've been in Santa Cruz for nearly a month now. Sadly, I am having no luck meeting people. I really miss my friends at home. I guess that's partly why I keep going home on the weekends.
I've been offered a job in Modesto. My father needs a bookkeeper (well, he needs a secretary) and I just happen to know how to do that. He said he'd give me a car and pay for gas if I'd drive home (Modesto) every other weekend to do payroll and bookkeeping for the office. On top of that he'll pay me. I am thinkin' that sounds too good to pass up.
I think I will accept the offer so I can make some money and so I can continue to see my friends in Modesto. When I lived there I thought I hated it. Funny how things change, isn't it?
Our stairwells are covered in paintings done by students over the years. Today I saw one as I was walking up the stairs that said something about knowing great joy the next time I see you becuase I will know I am finally home. I've been thinkng a lot about the word "home" these days. What is home? Some people say home is where you lay your head. In that case Santa Cruz is home. Some say home is where the heart is and in that case home is in Kuwait right now.
I remember when Victor and I visited Jean-Marc in Germany. Everytime we'd go off to travel while JM "worked" we'd refer to Baumholder as "home."
Anyway, nothing feels very homey at the moment. Hopefully that will change. I hope i meet some damn people in Santa Cruz!

disposablehero:
that's cool about your dad paying you. it would also be cool to see you home on a consistant basis that could be relied on. i've seen you almost every weekend you've been at santa cruz so far. hehe. anyway, i think that home is where you feel comfortable.
