I'm telling you man that the Caddy 500 with an aluminum intake weighs 40 pounds more then an all iron SBC. They've got a ton of cubic inches, but they also have much less mass then all the other American BBs. The thing is they have a ton of iron in them (more then any other BB as I understand it), but also have the thinnest cylinder walls. Because of this tons of iron they run very hot (average street temperature of a Caddy 500 is 230F min, compared to an SBC that runs 170-180). I'm telling you, their power to weight ratio is disgusting....and it's all mine! biggrin
therealtexasguy:
Mr. Smarty Pants here. I'd still put a Caddy 540 stroker up against one of those Ford 540s, if only cause the Caddy's only stroked a mild 40 cubes, whereas the Ford is stroked 90! That's a Honda engine! eeek tongue

Ever wonder why the best engines tend to be made outside the US? At least Ford engines. Of the three best blocks you can get for the small-block Ford they are the FRPP 302 racing block, the Mexican 5.0L 302 block (Fox era), and the 91 302 found in Mustangs/LTDs. Those are the three strongest 302 blocks ever made, and oddly enough I think the old FRPP race blocks used to be made in Mexico as well, but don't quote me on that. I known Mexican production blocks are in hgih demand with those enthusiasts in the know cause they're cheap at junk yards, but have tons and tons of nickel in em (comparatively).

i applied to work for the helldesk but said fuck it since well id rather not deal with that.

i'd make a good BOFH if i had some more unix skills...
therealtexasguy:
Yep. As long as I'm wearing an approved helmet, fire retardant clothing, and have a small fire extinguisher fixed to the interior somewhere (and nothing lose in the cab), it'll pass the 95mph tech. Oh, and as long as I have approved tires.

Now if I was going Unlimited Class (220+mph biggrin ) I'd need a tubed race car. ARRR!!!

We were out roaming the streets on the sleds until 4:30 AM then slept until 2:00 PM , went on a seven mile hike up to Castle Craig in Hubbard Park , about half of the trip was through foot deep snow and I could barely lift my legs afterward . Oh well back to bed biggrin

I ain't too keen on eBay either, but that's something I'd only buy from a shop that does business on eBay, and then only one with very favorable ratings on that same product. On eBay there's a half dozen companies that sell only manual transmissions, and the prices range from buy it now at $800 - $1000. With a 500hp/600ft-lbs big block, I plan on spending about $800 a year on transmissions, depending on how hard I drive 'em wink . Seems like a reasonable expense, especially considering that the transmissions aren't made for the engine, and also the fact that after the initial install and everything is properly fitted (i.e. drive shaft) and the lines are setup right, I can change out the tranny itself in a day all by my lonesome. biggrin

Allmost enough snow in the street now to take the snowmobiles out riding around the backroads biggrin

The weather seems to be showing three to five days of snow in the forcast over the next seven days so I should be able to get the snowmobiles out on the streets...

We waited till 3AM and took the sleds out on the streets this morning , blasted around all the backroads and used the highway for the return trip , then slept till 4PM . We went on a 5 mile hike in the high tension wire trails , I felt pretty good afterwards . Now I'm cooking fresh pheasant that I shot while on the...

Aside from shooting the bird, I gotta move to your neck of the state. You always seem to have the coolest outdoor days.
therealtexasguy:
90 proof, but I believe you can get stronger stuff from the distillery (in person of course).

Very much worth a try. I loathe whisky, but this stuff is just beautiful. I can only drink it straight it tastes so good.

biggrin

Gotta love pheasant!

Just got back from a day trip to Vermont with the snowmobiles , we put on a lot of miles riding the trails and visiting friends . It's snowing on top of the mountain now , actually more of an icy mix , got almost 1/4 inch on the truck while backing the sled trailer into the barn , and this weather might continue into...

a lotta snow here this morning mad
therealtexasguy:
funny you should mention that. the first thing i did was reach for the last cigarette i had from my last pack, but just putting it to my lips made me start coughing. so I set it down, walked into the kitchen, and took a few loooong pulls off of a bottle of handmade kentucky bourbon whisky (Thompson was a Kentucky boy after all) and paid silent tribute to the great artist.

We spent all day in bed today , just had breakfast now , pasta with scallops in alfredo sauce , on Sunday we will head out for a nice hike up west peak before the snow starts , if we get the 5 to 7 inches they are talking about I will be able to get some high speed miles on the snowmobile on the...

his lawyer must have sucked or something...

he said that the guy told him in that town you cant get away with bargaining for points removed...which is a total load of crap if you ask me. what a moron for going 107 and getting caught but even worse for hiring a poor lawyer!
robscarlett:
Sounds like yer having some good times there bub. smile Snowboarding was really fun and the conditions were perfect. It started snowing as we pulled into the place and snowed all day. Nice fresh powder and it just got deeper and softer as the day went on.
I fell a bunch but way less than I thought I would. Landed a jump or two...fairly well. Stopped sooner than my two friends because I pulled a back muscle and I'm out of shape. So I was tired.
I hope things continue to go well bub.
Take care. smile

A chilean rose is a tarantula, it's one of 7 I have left.

Don't worry, I ain't been fishing in a long time either...and it's killing me.... mad

Oh....yeah....and....I FOUND MY ENGINE!!!!! $525 delivered to Seattle and I told the guy $600 if he'll get it to Kent. Just checked online and I can get a storage unit in Kent for $20.00 a month. *doin' the happy dance*. Even better, this gives me a reason to fly up to Seattle for a little vacation. With the plane tickets it's going to cost about an even grand - but fuck me if that isn't worth it; four days with my family and the kids AND I get the most bitchinest engine in the world?

biggrin
