Godspeed, Daddy. 1943 - 2011.
On my way to the hospital this morning, I was listening to my dad's favorite Pink Floyd album. Ever since I was a kid, he'd turn up "Time" and go, "Yea! This is real rock n' roll!" in a thick Mississippi accent.
I made it to the hospital around 7:30am. My brother, sister-in-law, and aunt were outside the room crying. My brother hugged me and said he passed away already. I immediately felt the "I was too late" notion, but I shook it off knowing that when I saw my dad yesterday in the hospital, the last words we exchanged were, "I love you" and "I love you too" and that's all that mattered.
It's very surreal to see my dad laying there, looking like he's asleep, but knowing that he's not going to wake up. I felt his hands and his head. He was still warm and his hands didn't begin feeling cold until after about 45 minutes when we all decided to leave. I was left alone with him to say my goodbyes, and I hugged him and kissed his head.
A new journey awaits.

Know that the bright and burning lamp that is the soul of your father is in you - in that way he is immortal, he will always be with you. Also, the greatest gift he gave to the world was you and from what I've seen you are a wonderful and awesome woman, this world is lucky to have you.
