Yeah, I know what those phonecalls are like. BT seem particularly aimless, it's true. The last time I phoned O2 though, I was quite successful... when I realised that none of the options I was getting even slightly matched what I wanted, i started jabbing at numbers randomly. I quickly got through to some random chap who couldn't help me, but he quickly put me straight through to exactly the right person who could!
