I think it is time to thin the heard on my SG Groups. When I started my membership I threw myself into the group boards and made a bunch of posts before reading what the vibe of them was.
I think, that I am going to quit the NM group because I don't live there and because all things being equal it's a great group if you live there but it doesn't make any sense if you live in Rhode Island. I grew up there and when I joined up I had just moved here, so maybe I was a little homesick, maybe I was being stupid, but the people all have relationships that I can't be part of, and I am starting to feel like I am looking at them the same way I watch fish. Which is to say, I think they are pretty but I can't engage with them. I want more of a puppy, or a big dog feel from my group. A group that will piss on the floor when I get home, and jump and down covering me in slobber when I want to wrestle with it. WOW! That metaphor steamrollered on away from me.
When I joined up I jumped into the Lit Club group and started a summer reading club, which was great, a guy named Stinky and I read three books and commented pretty well on two of them. I am thinking about doing the same thing this summer so if you are in the Lit Club keep your eyes peeled for a thread called Summer Reading Club 09. I think I will get with Stinky and pick the books but I am going to lobby for Julio Cortazar's Hopscotch, pretty hard.
Other groups that I joined that I joined but lost interest in pretty fast, Theater, Geezers, ubernerds (or maybe its geeks I can't remember what it is called). I have been enjoying reading some of the threads on a fitness and health group that I joined a couple weeks ago. So maybe I need to limit my membership to three or four groups and build my community slowly.
The club I work in has its grand opening on Monday the 19th. I am a little nervous because I haven't had to do much to this point. A lot of standing around behind a desk and waiting for somebody to say, "Hey, can you do this." Which is fine. But now the members are going to be coming in and there is a new priority on things. And I have to be there at 5am. With my recent sleeping habits (I am not sleeping real well and usually turn in around 1 or 2 am) that might be problematic.
Last thing for the day, I am excited about the Landing School (the boat building school I got into. I can't wait to get up there and learn about this. It is going to be a new and exciting aspect of my life. The things that I have to get straightened out between now and then are the following:
1. I have to buy a shit ton of tools.
2. I have to get a car.
3. I have to move to Maine
Those are pretty big tasks to accomplish.
Oh and hell, I just found out that my a friend of mine who works at the Zoo near me wants to see about using some photos I took on my last visit in their marketing materials. That is pretty neat.
