Today is New Year's Day and I always have a bit of mixed relationship with it. On one hand it seems like a great ceremony, starting anew with the turn of a calendar page, but on the other hand it seems like a stupid ceremony, if I want to lose 30 lbs, or read a certain number of books, what is the difference picking a seemingly arbitrary date like November 10th vs. January 1st?

I guess the thing that I am going to do this year is start stretching my feet out more in the morning before I get up and start moving around. I have been exercising with a workout group called Crossfit and it is fantastic, I feel stronger and more healthy, I made it through December without getting a cold--touch wood--and I have lost about forty pounds since August. More important I can see the difference in my body and I can feel the difference in my pants, none of which fit anymore. But I also have plantar fasciitis and so walking around hurts, but I have been doing some research on finding stretches that I can do to permanently fix the problem and I think I found some good ones.

Last night I had another low key New Year's Eve, I rang in the New Year at Cheesecake Factory eating some Peanut Butter explosion thing. It was fun to take the piss out of the night by under-celebrating it. I was out with some new friends that I have met this year. I am a big fan of the low-key New Year's Eve.

I have sort of lost the plot on this journal entry, so have a Happy New Year, be safe, make resolutions, break them.

My buddy from San Diego sent me this message at midnight:

"The Motto for 2009 is:
Work like you don't need the money,
Drive your car like it's stolen,
Dance like nobody's watching,
Fuck like you are on film."

I don't know... if it works for you then take it.
niobe:
Mmmmmm cheesecake! love

That is a good motto. biggrin
