Today might have been the first day that I didn't dread the prospect of heading to work, which is a weird feeling.
I have been reading and perusing the internet for news on football news, any prelude information to Euro 2008.
On a total lark I started a thread in the Lit Club section called Summer Reading Club, or something like it anyway (it is linked so it could be called Kitty Kat bubble chef and it wouldn't matter), in an effort to get people talking about some books that I have always wanted to read but never had the motivation to get really into.
I have to say that I am impressed with the response. One of the things that I find disheartening about the SG forums is they way that the noob is said with such derision. So to have more than five people respond to a thread started by someone with under a month activity is pretty neat.
Part of the reason for the club is this theory that I have that you have to be a pretty good writer to win a Nobel Prize. All of the writers in the selection (Garcia Marquez, Saramago and Pamuk) have won the Nobel Prize and all of them are not American, but I think that is mostly coincidental.
I have a pile of unfinished books by my chair right now and I am hoping to get through them all in the next week or two so that I can start the summer off right. Currently in the pile are:

- Un-lun-dun by China Mieville
- Somersault by Kenzaburo Oe (another Nobel Prize winner)
- Lamb by Christopher Moore
- A Brief History of the Dead by Kevin Brockmeier
- So Far From God by Ana Castillo
- Granta's 100th edition Spring 2008
Daunting I think; but doable since starting June 7th I have nothing to do but sit and read and write and get ready for a summer of leisure.
What I am listening to right now: Smell Memory by Mum
What I am reading: See the list, ugh!
oubliette:
Can you guess which book it's from?
kowtow:
I am completely and utterly baffled.
