My job is almost over for the summer and I am going out to California at the end of June. But more on that later. What I am the most excited about is getting started on my half sleeve this week coming up. It is long over due and I can't wait. I found an artist that blew me away with her work--there was this one piece that she did for a girl that was from The Little Prince and I fell in deep smit with her. We have been talking about ideas and I think she found a perfect complement to my hares. So we get started Tuesday. Yea that!
My tip to California is another thing entirely. I am really nervous about it. I am going out to LA to see a friend that I haven't seen since 1994 or 1995. To say that I am scared shitless would be an understatement. Granted a lot of water has passed under the bridge, but she is still my first love, and nothing will change that.
It makes me wish that we had one of those horrible tragic relationships where you hate each other so much that you spit when you say their name. That way at least I would know where I stand; but this relationship has been going on for 27 years it seems (we were in kindergarten together) and I still love her more than anything in the world. So much fear.
I saw my first two sets on SG that floored me. Hezza's enjoy the silence and Sophie's Midnight Alley. These are two women that on top of being mind-blowing beautiful are so smart about their photo sets.
I have been flipping through Camera Lucida and thing that really caught me on these sets is this use of the colors. Hezza has picked a background, the ecru walls, that almost matches her skin tone and so what I am left with is the gorgeous contrast between her glorious red hair and that divine green sweater, but then there is this bright red pendant that LEAPS out of the picture. It is breathtaking. I can't stop looking at it. It is so gorgeous. The photographer is a genius.
Similarly Sophie's set uses the red in her dress and the lipstick and I am lost. Hopelessly lost. The fact that she has a smile that could illuminate a small city doesn't hurt either. And because I am such a sucker for beautiful tattoo art, I think that I would put her on my short list of most beautiful SG's because of her art. So colorful and so... word stealing.
Beautiful women, beautiful photographers, just gorgeous gorgeous work.
