This happened this past weekend in Hong Kong. I would have attended, but I was too busy being kinky with my girlfriend. She visited from Beijing and it was lovely. I met her at the train station in the suburbs of Hong Kong. I kissed her as she exited, and didn't want to let go. I knew as soon as I stopped kissing her,...

Shifted jobs. Now working two hours away. Have to travel from the way north of Hong Kong to the very far south. Working night shifts at a place called Cyberport. It's like something out of THX or Space Odyssey. Scary when the building is more intelligent than you are.

Two hours away? Ouch. That makes me feel like a lazy bastard, work is less than 10 feet away from where I sleep.
While I know I would probably be better off without it, caffeine is one of the few vices I allow myself these days, and I would honestly have a very difficult time giving it up. But I appreciate the sentiment.
No, it's perfectly logical (to me) to think that marriage situation is strange. You know, I believe that sometimes we get so comfortable with our friends that we assume too much, or too little, and wind up having to reevaluate our perceptions. I'm definitely having to do that with my friend's marriage.
Are you certain that the building isn't actually Skynet?

Boss is switching my job. No more postproduction coordinating. Back to syncing picture and sound on another film. Step up? Step down? I dunno. But without less of a Cantonese factor, I should be happier.

thats dope man....no more 70s esque ..kung fu theatre style dubbing ..."ha! my style of monkey crane joy fat fu is better than ur masters...." and u wish to defeat me?"

Work is honestly driving me insane. The combination of a film industry that works four times faster and less orginaized than Hollywood and a huge language barrier is really getting to me. To the point where the emotions are beginning to crack thru and show in the workplace.

I can only imagine how frustrating that must be. I've dealt with working with someone who didn't know how to articulate what it was they wanted and ended up pretty confused, let alone having a language barrier.
After a week--long trip to the seventh level of Buddhist hell (the hell of the torture of the Knife-like Eyes and the Hissing Tongues) I ended up back in Hong Kong, doing OK, learning some Cantonese, with a new coworker who is the Man.

Lately, I've been in a weird mood musically, jumping all over and back and forth. Off the top of my head, some of the last few bands have been Preacher Gone To Texas, thefarewelldrive, Idle Hands, and a sprinkling of some random hip hop. I know, that did absolutely nothing for my indie cred. Heh.
My view on insomnia is somewhat atypical. Honestly, I kind of enjoy it, but I've also dealt with it most of my life. And I am more of a night person, so it doesn't bother me to be awake. But on the same note, over the last few years I have gone from having several friends with insomnia (or that at least stayed up all hours of the night) to none at all, and it has become much more solitary. Which isn't necessarily bad, but it isn't exactly ideal either.
Speaking of learning, what are your thoughts on the differences between learning Cantonese over Mandarin? I have personal reasons in picking up Mandarin, but it couldn't hurt me to consider going further.

Yo. I have the memory of ... I don't know what.... an animal with a very short term memory.
Anyhow, I remembered it was Halloween recently. Ended up at the bar district with my bro's friend who's lucky/unlucky enough to be in the pay of some huge corporation that owns the world. So he's visiting. I take him to Victoria peak, and we all ooh...

PS - I never saw The Hulk, but it was my biggest fear growing up.
Boss from hell is on attack mode again.
One of my lesser favorite aspects of Chinese culture is that when someone criticizes you, it's not cuz you did something wrong, but it's because of some fundamental aspect of your thinking/character which you have to change.
Wish me luck tomorrow.

Good luck
I'm notoriously bad at talking about myself. I'll avoid it if I procrastinate, so I'll just go into it now.
1. I am constantly beset by feelings of nostalgia, especially for things that are only tangentally related to me. On trips in high school to other schools, I could often imagine my life there easier than I could my life in my actually high school....

Started a new movie over here. I'm not really sure how I fit in yet or why I'm there. They made up some kind of title for me. The editor I work under is involved but is busy on another project. Her friend is the head editor, but I don't think he really likes me because he can't speak Mandarin and I can't speak Cantonese....

BEST MEALS EVER
This entry goes out to Brocklee and his last comment. I am definitely picking up some pudge while here. Here's some of the famous meals I've had that have made me the pudge I am today:
-Dinner (today) , Hong Kong
-Meal: Roast goose over rice
-Restaurant: some Cantonese BBQ place in Yaumatei
-Lunch three years ago, Hong Kong

I was given a piece of cake once, without eating it right away. It sat first in my car, then on my table for a few hours as the intensity of its chef's care gradually dawned on me. I didn't think that it would live up to my expectations, but it's--to this day--the single greatest piece of cake I've ever had.
Good eye on the name. You're the first to catch it.
Cheers, brother.
