Happy New Year all.

Celebrated at this Electronica bar in Central away from the hordes at Lan Kwai Fong, which is the big bar street here. I went with an old college friend from Hong Kong. All my Hong Kong friends live in New York now. She told me a few years back, the bar street got so crowded 30 people got trampled to death. So this year the police were routing people along a circuituous route orbiting the bar street to keep crowds at a minimum.

I got two absinthes at the bar which gave me two quick slaps to the brain. The effect is kind of like having your feet rooted firmly on the ground, but your head floating up by the moon. I shut myself up and listened to my friend tell about her jet-setting lifestyle.

Midnight came, big hoorays that the world didn't end. I love discovering what is the first song of the year. Usually in the States we're watching the TV and its some insipid pop group that plays after the fireworks, some group that's bound not to live out the year. It was good to be at a bar this time. First song was M.I.A.'s "Bucky Done Gun." That means its gonna be a good year.
