Went to a Chinese punk concert tonight. I haven't been to one in two years. Back in the day the venue was a daytime roller derby that turned into a punk lounge and mosh pit at night. But construction clear through that and now its an expressway.
Since then Beijing's expanded its nightlife opportunities, and there's a more varied rock scene.

My birthday gift to myself:I finished the script I've been working on. It's about Hawaii. Cuz Hawaii is pretty. Well...almost finished. Typed away in a coffee shop filled with suits prancing in and out, oogling the coffeeshop girls. Fucking suits.
Tonight, walking back from dinner in the comfortable darkness of the Beijing alleys, my girl went past the "Old People's Education Center."

Beijing trip delayed by work, more work, and sickness.
Thought you all might appreciate some of the classic quotets from the movie I'm working on:
"It's part of an ancient Ninja philosophy called 'Five Sisters'. Five fingers ...like five sisters...individually they are weak, but together..."
"I saw you when you were just a child practicing your martial art on this beach and I thought even...

happy birthday chinaman.
Heading to Beijing in a few to see the girl. Looks like we're back together. Let's hope her near-pneumonia doesn't keep us apart.
In better spirits today for no apparent reason.

Broke up with the Beijing girl last night. Or did she break up with me? One of those things where she said, "well, it's time to ask, so yes or no?" And I kind of said "uh....n-" and she hung up on me.
Guess I should have some kind of insight or strong emotion, but all I gotta say is "feels sucky."
or maybe:

Rainy day in Hong Kong here. Working thru the night to a morning of congee breakfast and cloud-covered mountains. Sporting new glasses and some new dubs thanks to a pay check. Nice to have sound dough after spending every last dime in Beijing. Who ever said Third World nations were cheap was lying.
Some good news...might be working on Kungfu Hustle 2 when it starts...

hnmmm can your occupation be film?
koue:
I wouldn't call it an occupation. More like a bad marriage.
Living the low-life in Hong Kong now. Post-production is on. No more brief encounters with actors who look like they were raised on special hormone formulas to produce large mouths and larger tah-tahs. Noodles, curry, and Cantonese tabloids keep my soul alive.
One of the weirder things seen in working on this film: living green screens. They have these dudes dress up in day-glo green and run around the actresses while they are playing bikini volleyball. When they jump for a spike, a little green dude runs up behind her and picks her up. Down the line they'll erase the green dude, but for now they are permanently doing damage to my subconscious as I have to hours of footage of women being fondled by green men.

Late nights in a small city five hours outside Shanghai. On American time, as I'm the night shift for a film called D.O.A. I spend hours culling thru footage of both ridiculously bad acting and writing, and ridiculously elastic mammaries. It's based on a Japanese video game, and is not much more than a collection of sixth grade wet dreams.
Long hours. I play thru...

Embarrassed myself on Chinese national TV last night. It won't show for another month, and I hope to god they edit most of my parts out. It was a talkshow about being left-handed. The show started with a Romanian dude singing a patriotic song about the Chinese red flag and fondling an innocent child in the front row, then ended with another guy singing a...

The all-seeing eye of the Chinese gov't threatens to turn towards me as the end date on my visa draws closer. But I naively threw off my responsibility to get an extension and played in the park with my friend Ed. Our friend Yanjing beer tagged along and made us happy. We talked about women and marriage and then rolled down the hill and wrestled....

China adventure continues, with fewer trips to the bathroom. Today I went to listen to Li Xiangting, famous guqin player. His version of "Flowing Water" made me nearly shed tears to drop from my face down through several centuries of history.
Instead they dropped into a big bucket of ale that I found myself watering over just after the concert. Friends all around. One of...
