got back last night from my three day roadtrip to cleveland, detroit, and london.. had an awesome fucking time too.. my stay in cleveland, while i was visiting the coolest girl in the world, included an outing for wings, a trip to the great lakes brewery, and a trip to the west side market.. thursday night was the trip to the brewery, and it was pretty cool.. although i forgot to order one of their special brews called "nosferatu".. i wanted to get loaded goth-stylee.. had a beer basted chicken sandwich, and some interesting conversation with a group of ohio ladies... watched a documentary about sun records, that i'd have to see again to know what happened, and capped off a 12 hour drinking marathon with a walk around the mean streets..
friday morning started off early for me, with ice in a blender, and my head rattling from many cans of cheap pbr and delicious rolling rock.. hit the west side market for a giant cookie, and perusal of their deli counters.. it was a wicked place, with far too many vegetables for my liking... the best vendor's name had to be "urban herbs".. followed that with a visit to some buddhist voodoo shop with masks, and giant walking sticks, gongs, and devil related materials... after all of that we headed off to detroit to meet up with the man, for the paybacks show at the lager house, and some extremely humid afternoon bowling at the garden bowl.. bowling was pretty cool, considering i hadn't been for quite awhile, and oak is an enthusiast... let's just say my skills were less than stellar.. but i think now i'll make it out to the alley a little more often..
stayed at the ramada in detroit, and it was a nice blend of old school classiness, and new school filth.. got some sort of pimped out playa suite with a 4 foot wide door... totally made me laugh, and i even phoned down to the lobby to see if i had the right room.. totally hilarious... before we rolled out to the paybacks show we all hit the hotel bar, for some of the worst drinks, and service i'd ever had.. the trip to the lager house, was a wicked 1 minute cab ride with an old guy who was belting out some quality stand-up.. and the show itself was top notch.. all 3 bands tore it up, and the paybacks definitely kicked my ass... a great day all around, with the only dull spot being a drive through the metropolis which is toledo... never again... did a lot of drinking on a pretty much empty stomach, and had a short sleep topped off with about 4 litres of nasty tap water... good times.
saturday morning involved lazing about, but not as long as i had hoped, and then down to the hotel restaurant for what might have been the most disgusting display of the breakfast arts that i've ever been a party to.. me and oak hooked up "the full leland", good ol' number 7 on the grease soaked menu.. about an hour later, we recieved a nasty meal that went down not too badly, all things considered.. all forms of pork were present, and i had a nice glass of $3 apple juice to go with my $5 breakfast... \m/ ... still had to be better than the cheese omelette miss mynka ordered
i've never seen cheese that colour... it seemed very unnatural for sure... toured around detroit for the bulk of the afternoon, which included a trip to royal oak, and of course a trip to the bus station.. rock city... after that i made the solo trek home, and stopped off at my parents house for some dinner and a visit.. apparently they had been trying to get a hold of me since thursday and had left 7 messages on my machine... the messages escalated with paranoia, and fear that finally resulted in a hilarious message that went something like this : "hello... this is your dad...larry... are you okay?....where are you?"... holy fuck.. too funny.
so far, this year has rocked many a good weekend for me... this was the best so far.. good times with two of the finest people on the planet..
