I spent a large part of my adult life conflicted ? my relationship to and with television has had some polarized moments, from fighting the medium when I was in college with the Jerry Mander inspired TV LIES campaigns, The Media Lounge exhibition David and I did at Cal-Arts? Mint Gallery- ?Television is a Tool of Tyrants? and after diving headlong into the emerging technology space to try and find alternatives to the mainstream concentual hallucination of reality shoved down our willing throats by big corporate?s media machine ? I eventually came to the conclusion that the only way to REALLY change things is to be part of the entire corrupt system that creates this crap. So I sold out and bought into the JOB and went to work for an EvolutionRevolution from the inside ? introducing new MIME types into the fragile medium that is emerging as interactive television. In this new world the concept of channels has been eradicated, because there is really no need for channels ? I mean, who REALLY gives a shit if their favorite show is on channel One or Two. It really is a corporate branding exercise in which the ultimate goal of the networks is to find ways of selling me :or at least my attention: to advertisers by acting as the gatekeeper to the entertainment and information I want to access. I just can?t seem to get my head around the missing value proposition here for me ? as a consumer. Why do I put up with it?
Oh shit ? I am late to my next Pinky and the Brain Session!
I?ll finish the rant later ? time to conquer the world again?

It?s later?
I am sitting in the Airport in Nice, having a beautiful bottle of wine and a bag of madelons coco. It is well before 9:00AM. Well, by the time I get to Amsterdam ? I will be ready and willing to accept the shitstorm that awaits.
MILIA ended up being a good show ? access to key decision makers that normally don?t have time or energy to deal with independents were readily available, and the mood was generally optimistic despite the current world situation and the state of our industry. Mobile application development and DVD seemed to be the ?hot topics? of the day, and the reality programming blitz hasn?t reached the tired list yet. MIPtv is a completely different breed of people ? and I don?t think the intended overlap happened as REED-MIDEM had hoped.

And now I am back in Amsterdam. It is Friday night, and I have to prep to film these bands tonight ? so no SG for me.

;-(

I guess there is always late night ? when everything has that strange quality?
