I don't mean to be another contradictory guy, but yeah I think some people want pain...but true, not just "because it is pain" but rather because 1) they like it (ex. Rob Halford's big "pain" tattoo above his nether-regions), 2) it blocks something else out (ex. self-mutilators), 3) they want to feel something (see #2).
