Something I hate:
when people act astonished that you don't know something they know
There is forced surprise and undertones of superiority in this reaction. I hate it. It makes the unknower feel embarrassed, angry, anything besides interested. It's reactions like that which make people afraid to speak up, for fear or public humiliation. I try to never do this. I'm sure I have at some point, and hopefully my surprise and response was genuine. They can't get over the fact that you don't know and instead of kindly supplying you with the information, they make you feel just... stupid. Examples would be like if someone did not know what the word "couture" meant or didn't know who wrote Brave New World and the knower scoffed at the unknower and acted surprised for longer than 5 seconds for purposes of emphasizing how unbelievable it is that this was not known.

Something I love:
sleepy hellos
You know that "hello" or "hi" you get when you call that special someone at an ungodly hour? When they answer the phone and they know it's you. It's not some call from the police telling them a loved one has been hurt. You both know you are waking them up and even though you apologize for doing so you are both secretly glad to be awake and connected. It sounds like they're just stretching that little bit of sleep out of their body while saying "hello." That sound kills me. I love that sound.

What about you?

Q: do you know how many hipsters it takes to change a lightbulb?

A: what, you don't know?

Yes, but I was not in Los Angeles on my actual birthday, and neither was anyone else, as it was on Thanksgiving day. So my roommate and I, having our birthdays a day apart, decided to celebrate once everyone was back in town.
