the days blend together
the nights a shady blur
like a child lost in the woods
crawling on bloody knees
after a trail of crumbs long ago eaten
eyes peer at me in the dark
confusion, hate, distrust, curiosity
my own fear chokes me,
hoping to save me from this punishment
to free me from something i cannot escape
lost and alone
the darkness comforts me like an old mother
the soft bosom of the darkness hiding away my fears
and letting me believe the world is a safe place
but as always the arms let loose
and the wretched light shows me what i do not want to see
the slinking teeth and eyes that will consume
to end the struggle with little remorse
the story of their own tormented journey
