Once again, I'm calling on all my photography lovers here, as I get closer to my camera purchase.

I've decided on the Nikon D-80, and am now shopping around for the best deal. This is what I'm looking at right now. Here's the short version:

One:
Nikon D80 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera Kit with 18-135mm AF-S DX Zoom-Nikon Lens PLUS with the promotional code I'll get a free Kingston 2 GB SD memory card. Price: $1,160.14 at Amazon.com

Two:
Nikon D80 DSLR Camera Body, CR35M: Secure Digital USB Memory Card Reader CR-35M, 1GB Secure Digital Memory Card, Sigma 28-70mm f2.8-4 HIGH SPEED lens, Sigma Zoom Telephoto 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Autofocus Lens, 58mm Wide Angle Lens, and other assorted fancies, for $1158 at ShopSunshine.com (suggested to me by SAbitboy.)

Three:
Nikon D80 Digital SLR Camera Body, Nikon 18-135mm AF-S DX Lens, Nikon EN-EL3e Li-Ion Battery Pack, USB 2.0 High Speed SecureDigital Card Reader, Digital Image Recovery Software, Nikon SLR System Case, Memory Card Storage Wallet for $1034.95 on Ebay via Cameta (suggested to my by rpg).

Now, I'm checking around, but mainly I'm only seeing the D-80 available with the Body Only, for about $1000. But I'm also not certain that I'm checking in the right places. I'm looking for the best deal I can get, and I've got to do a lot of reading and fact-assimilating in the next two weeks before I make my decision on where to get my precious clicky box.

Cameradudes, please to point brain in proper direction? We like me. We don't want me to get screwed on an expensive camera which me plans to use all the fucking time. I trust your guys' input. Thanks for the advice already on Body Only versus buying with the lens!

Also, work makes me a very very dirty woman sometimes.

munkyspunk:
i got the d80 with the kit lens in january from ritz camera and love it. just last month i bought a quantarey 135-700mm lens to go with it i think. i also love it!

some things to remember...usually your best bet is to go with a kit lens - nikon usually puts some pretty good lenses in for these. especially for a 1st camera!

some places to check out are:

b and h photo - http://www.bhphotovideo.com

adorama - http://www.adorama.com/

ritz camera - http://www.ritzcamera.com/

and this guy has some extensive reviews of various cameras, lenses, etc...he's a professional freelancer for national geographic i believe...but check his site out. he's totally independent and has some really good info! it definitely helped me decide what to get initially - http://kenrockwell.com/

good luck!!

Good luck with the camera purchase - I've used the D40, so I imagine the D80 is even better.

Also, your new profile picture is lovely.
