You know what's really awesome about having a live-in boyfriend? It's like I have a completely new library, without all that pesky hassle of actually purchasing new books. Nick_Heretic has a marvelous collection of HP Lovecraft books, which will certainly keep me busy through June, and maybe into July. I mean, I knew having access to his weird and wonderful collection of movies would be awesome, but the books! Dear Monkeys in Burma, the books!! I'm almost done reading The Lurker at the Threshold... it's really nice to be reading something that can give me that neck-shivery feeling I only get when I get really creeped out, something that hits that first real terror-filled night I had when I was young and had my first memorable nightmare.

It came upon me because, not having cable tv growing up, I was not used to such television programming, and so the one evening I watched an episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark?, it struck a nerve. The episode, I recall, had something to do with the film Nosferatu - the children had freed Nosferatu from the film and were being menaced by the Draculean horror, I think. My nightmare that same night reflected the episode, and I was young enough that the only way I felt safe in my own bed at night for many weeks (it felt like weeks) to come was to wrap my security blanket 'round my neck (not too tight, of course, but so that I could feel it). I was protected, then, you see. And to this day, whenever I am faced with something truly chilling, I feel compelled to put pressure on, or cover, the back and sides of my neck.

There are moments, reading Lovecraft now, where I feel that safe feeling of neck-vulnerability, but now I'm old enough to savor it, and revel in it, even as I reach for a hooded sweatshirt, or pull the covers of the bed up close.

In other news, people are still occassionally commenting on Dark Time (and yes, I'm pimping it here so that people will continue to do so - no need to if you already have, though, I think. It's greatly appreciated!). That makes me happy.

There is hope for another session of D&D this weekend, probably on Friday. I am anticipating lots more of undead villains, and quite a bit more senseless violence and killing. Huzzah, and so forth!
