They might call me a megalomaniac. Maybe I'm just acting out my destructive impulses. Or I could just be doing this out of a desire to see my superiority exerted over hundred of people.
I have been playing, I think, too much Age of Empires II.
But I can't help it, not really. I get so bored sitting at home and telling my cats how much I hate them. And... there it is. Right there on the desktop. Cheerful. We both know I'm not a great player, set in my ways as I am, but the game doesn't mind. The game lets me chose the Black Forest map every time, and always gives me the perfect choke points to defend.
I love exploring the map before I even reach the Feudal Age, finding all the relics and asking myself, is that last one worth it? Should I really send that poor monk to die in search of a relic he may never even reach? And then I reply, of course. If he didn't want to die horribly at some wretched quest, he shouldn't have devoted his life to dog and been a farmer or miner instead. Those guys never get killed, not on my team.
I love walling up those choke points, sometimes forsaking walls and going completely with keeps or guard towers. I love just leaving *one* open, the least easily defensible, of course, and amassing my army there. My cav archers and arbalests and mangonels. I'm a big fan of the shooty guys.
I love steamrolling my way over oponent after oponent. I love bringing along that one peasant and building a new town center RIGHT over the old one, and completely taking over that area. And I love destroying castles, watching their hitpoints drain away until they crumble and fall.
I love gloating over the game report at the end, seeing how few losses I took in my army, how many things I researched, and how many resources I amassed. I have defeated my oponents mightily, caused terrible chaos among their people, taken their lands from them without batting an eye, and been crowned champion of the game.
One day, when I rule my own little country, they'll blame videogames. And then I'll have them executed, because everyone know's that it's not videogames that fuck up a kid. It's posing naked on the internet.
(Side note: Tomorrow, I might be reshooting the set I attempted on Monday. It's snowing at the mo, which is good, I'll also be kind of crunched for time, which is not as good. We'll see).
