Off he goes. My beau is gone to Afghanistan for 6 months. One day down & 180+ to go.
I've just got to keep busy. Today I got up to make a quick snack and wound up making some chilli, doing the dishes, taking all of the canned foods with meat out of the cupboard to give to a friend (I'm going vegge), and reorganizing...

One step forward, ten steps back.
It kind of feels like I'm running in place right now. Especially since I have NO idea when my new job is going to start, so I could very well wind up stuck at home with nothing to do and no money to play with once my beau goes on tour to Afghanistan in a week and a half....

On tour? What does he do? Tour as in armed services or tour as in band? or something else all together. Transitional times can often be nerve racking (?sp) When every bone in your body is screaming "ONWARD!"
I don't think it's wrong to wish him off. You can love someone, but that holding pattern can drive one insane. Have a few drinks for me...I had too many last night

Military. Yup, that's right. I'm a "military wife". Oh, how I despise that term. It's like there's nothing else to my being. From now on I'm going to call him a "feminist husband". Heh.
And my job hasn't started yet, and I still have no indication as to when it's gonna begin. Sonofa...

The Pembroke Public Library Rocks!
Last night, I got back from an awesome board meeting. As it turns out, in the library charter, they have very strict guidelines to protect creative freedoms and freedom of speech. All of the board members took the time to reiterate that the complaint made to the mayor was duly noted, however the materials in question were not going to...

Well it's good that the minority of the Ottawa Valley now have a crusader.
I used to rent records (yes records) from the Pembroke LIbrary when I was in Grade 11, as well as the occasional video tape (they used to have the entire original Star Trek series on VHS). It's nice to know my fond memories of the place haven't been tarnished by current events.

This email was forwarded to me earlier today. If you are able to make it to the Pembroke Public Library this Wednesday, Jan.10, at 5pm, that would be greatly appreciated:

Here's the entry you've all been waiting for - the low-down, dirty details on my eye surgery at LASIK MD in Ottawa on January 4th, 2007
First, I'll start with the end result. It's been over 48 hours since my surgery and I can see as well as before when I was wearing my glasses, but things are a little hazy, like when you wear...

Heh. Thanks. I figured if I'm going to go through something as crazy and terrifying as that, there's no fucking way I'm keeping it to myself!

didnt know women were afraid of the doctor too
thx for telling about it I've always wondered what thats like. I'm glad you didnt faint b/c then I'd still be wondering. never entered my mind that you might smell your corneas cooking. I pictured some cross between Clockwork O and the dentist, sounds like I wasnt too far off. good thing you made it.
I've got some other blogs going already, so I figured I'd give myself a head-start and copy some of my most recent posts. Now I don't feel like I'm starting from scratch.
And, don't worry, they're not all heavy and politically-charged. I do lighten the fuck up sometimes.

Outlook is dark, but optimism and goodwill can change that
(Canadian Fundraiser eNews, Article 4 of 14, Dec.15/06)
The government's evisceration of the Canada Volunteerism Initiative and the other extreme funding cuts it announced this fall are indeed hard for the voluntary sector to swallow, but we've been a similarly dark period before and been strengthened by the trial, and that may happen again.

Frustrating time to be a woman in Canada
