pertussis (whooping cough) is usually a childhood disease that you were probably vaccinated for, but it is possible to get it as a vaccinated adult.
if you have it, the cough is a severe non- productive cough. (no loogies come up) one that makes you cough for like 10 minutes straight and usually causes you to vomit and sometime leak urine. and occasionally break ribs. yeah, you cough that hard. the cough usually gets worse at night.
the whoop in whooping cough is a a like 'whoop' sound at the cough of the cough. but it isn't always heard in adult pertussis. the disease last for several weeks. if you suspect it, go have a blood test done for the pertussis infection.
ouch. never thought I'd be thanking God for flem. but from THAT description alone...I DO not have whooping cough....::sigh:: but thanks for the informative...(if slightly disturbing....) response - sets my mind at ease it does....
