Finding a mate of any kind ought not to be so much a search. Finding the right mate will likely be a combined effort (/accident/happening/coincidence/fatefulevent/doohickey).

I can see both sides, we had similar problems with my Father, but then I am also guilty of not looking after myself as good as I could. I think your plan is the best, move out, don't let his actions control your life. It will be hard, but you can't live his life for him, and he has to take responsibility for his actions.
