Jury duty really scared me. Not being a part of a jury, not deciding whether someone was guilty or not guilty, but the people I was deliberating with. There was a lot of mention about how the cop in the situation could've thought that the defendant had a weapon(he didn't), to which I pointed out that police are trained to think everyone has a weapon. That wasn't the scary part though. When I mentioned that just because some one carries a weapon it doesn't mean they intend to use it. When I said this the majority of the people exploded. "Omfg you can't be serious. Blah blah. Rabble rabble rabble." I couldn't believe I got such a reaction from such a simple statement. I was shaken to my core that people so blindly viewed the world. To calm down these naive freaks I said something to the affect of, "There is another word for weapon, it's protection." A sixty some odd year old woman replied, "He's right, I carry a tazer around with me for protection when I walk my dogs."

I can't believe that these morons in their black and white world don't realize what kind of world they actually live in. I think I am ignorant as hell, but to see that people like this actually exist in our world truly scares me. I really wish I could put in to words the feeling I have about these folks. To think that people's lives depend on these people is sickening. There were so many ignorant moments in our deliberation, some so very infuriating that I actually had to tell people to shut up, and at other times point out how ridiculous they were acting.

If I ever get arrested for anything I am not leaving it in the hands of a jury. I don't trust the system anymore. I knew it was fucked up, but I didn't know how truly fucked it was. The verdict ended in a hung jury because those fucktards couldn't get passed themselves or disassociate themselves from their morals and beliefs.

It all comes down to my mistake of believing people could see how I see, and think like I think. My ignorance knows no bounds. Sure I am just as guilty as they with the charge of ignorance, but my ignorance lies in the belief that humans are truly better than everyone else says. I have been proven wrong, and this knowledge shakes me to my core.

My only solace in this situation is that I feel I was put on that jury for a reason. Had I not been there the defendant could've been stuck with that lot of ignorant fools. If the prosecution decides to try him again maybe that time he will get a fair trial with an impartial jury. I know it's not true, but I hope it will help me sleep better.

Fuck stupid people. Fuck them in their stupid fucking asses.

That really is terrifying.
