Karen is gone.
Even if I do believe she's only travelling on, I can't prevent to hurt. I have just discovered today that she took her own life at the end of January... it is such a fucking waste to end a life like that.
You probably haven't heard of her unless you've seen
She first became famous as a French so-called "porn star" (30 films or so over a few months). She had given up porn already before meeting Virginie Despentes (author of the novel called "Baise-Moi", an extreme book about 2 women too fucked by life to find any way out and consequently going all the way deep down in self-destruction).
She starred in the subsequent film made by Despentes and her character was a vibrant depiction of life on the edge; she earned quite a lot of praise for it at the time... but I guess that when you've got the dirty "porn star" tag on you, you can never escape very far... especially in France.
She was 32. She was born in Lyon, my hometown, 25 days after me. I never knew her but I had the utmost respect for her. Don't ask me to explain why. I somehow felt she was one of us, people who are so fragile inside while pretending to be so tough on the outside.
Karen, may your soul travel on in peace and may you find happiness, wherever you're gone to.
I will miss you.

Every one just talks about the sex scenes in baise moi, and when I returned it to the video store the guy behind the counter said: you liked this huh? "wink, wink" Actually it was one of the most depressive films I've ever seen, just shows how fucked up life can be. She obviously had her reasons to take the part in it. Strange how we feel so close to strangers sometimes. I hope she'll be happyer in her next life or wherever she is now.

That is a shame. I knew of the film though haven't seen it and didn't know anything about her but it is still saddening to read that someone felt that that was the only recourse available to them. I hope she has found peace.
