And we have a winner:
Chicago, here we come
Sooo... since my last update...
Got offered and accepted a job as a "global project manager" (translates as: "international research executive") within a company part of what is maybe the biggest MR conglomerate in the world (Millward Brown/Research International) which fucking rules, since there are big bucks to be made there. I am already improving my last salary at Synovate UK by 10% and will be living in a town where the cost of life is basically half that of the London one
I had my 3rd interview (first 2 were on the phone) last wednesday when they flew me to Chicago for the day. I talked with the research manager for almost 2 hours
I think I'm probably the only guy who goes for a job interview that's quite vital (seeing how broke we are right now) and ends up talking about SoundForge or 65daysofstatic and having a laugh with the boss-to-be
I'm cool like that don't you know
Big yay for this. Chicago looks like an awesome town. I've never heard anybody saying bad things about it. Apparently, it's one of the places to be regarding music/gigs in the US and life there seems quite relaxed (compared to other big cities). I've already noticed that they've got many international restaurants and places to go out drinking... man, this will be a blast. New city to discover =
I'm going back next week for a 3 day training session that all new project managers have to attend - as it happens, this was the last session of the year - but I won't start before mid-September, which is fine by me, since it shall give me some time to enjoy doing nothing all day even more.
And I forgot to mention that they're paying for all relocation costs, I will have a flat that is rent & utility bills-free for 30 days, saving us money big time and also leaving us time to find out where we want to stay. I'm thinking 40th floor downtown Chicago in a big tower - already seen some websites offering affordable flats with amazing views. Re -
Fuck, this is good. After being forced to live like a bum and mostly surviving thanks to N's work & my parents' generosity, I'm fucking enjoying every minute.
Needless to say, my friends here (you know who you are) will be most welcome to visit N & me once we're settled. Anybody wants to spend a xmas holiday in Chicago...?
Until then, I hope you're all doing well.
Be good my friends,
es to all
