Another rock-n-roll weekend!
Let's see...Friday I picked up the ring I ordered off of ebay -- turns out that I got it from Touch Clothing, same place that was having the shindig that I was going to that night. The clothes are cool and this ring was damn swank -- titanium that was laser cut with a devil's head pattern. I bought it for $12 but they sold it to me for $10
Ate then headed over there. I found out that something like 300+ people had RSVP'd to the list, but they only were letting in around 70. Glad they told me ahead of time otherwise I would have shown up late! As I was standing in line one of the workers came out and told us that it was an art battle -- 6 different taggers / painters were on hand and had 2 hours to do a complete piece. We all got tickets to vote for our favorite.
Most of the painters were so-so. The two that were the best had a pretty solid / unique style. While they painted, the free beer flowed and various DJ's sup, including some guys from the Xecutioners! That was hot...or at least what I remember. Around glass 8 I started to get groggy. Stayed for a bit, split and got some Zataar with feta then went home to crash.
Saturday was a walk-a-thon. Cleaned the house and got my shit in order (finally) then left here. Got off on First Avenue and 14th street, then walked up to 47th street. Saw the United Nations, which was pretty cool (didn't go in though). My goal for the day was the Japan Society's Little Boy: The Arts of Japans Exploding Subculture, which is the third and final part to Murikami's SuperFlat series. I happened to catch one of them out in L.A. years ago and this was a nice capper on the series! I highly recommend it if you're into Japanese stuff or just cool pop art. After that I walked down Second Ave to St. Marks place, got some really crappy bubble tea from a vendor at a street festival (should have stuck with the original plan of going to St. Alps) and hit JAS market for some Tofu and Edamame. Watched Phantom of the Opera that night -- pretty good but the stage show I saw a few times 15 years ago was better.
Hmm...Sunday is a gym fun-day. Let's see if I can work off the beer and stuff! Tomorrow is a blood donation day and everyone should donate blood! You never know when you'll need some.
