I AM SO DEAF RIGHT NOW!!!

Shit, one of these days I won't be able to recover from seeing bands that loud. I'm writing this the next day, with hopes that some of my hearing would've returned...no dice!

This might be funny / sad when I'm back home talking with my Grandmother..."What?!?!" "Huh?!?!" "I didn't hear that!"

So, the bands went on at 9:00 p.m. -- I called the Knitting Factory 'cause I'm still uncertain on how venues out here do things with the time listed. Back home the time normally printed on the tix would indicate when the doors open...then MAYBE 2 hours later the show would start. Here the time listed has meant (so far) when the first band starts. And I'll be damned if the Knitting Factory isn't dead set on a time schedule! For me, this works 'cause that puts me home at an hour when I can get some sleep and still function (somewhat) at work the next day.

Well, as luck would have it...I nail all of my trains right when I get to each station! That was a first and I got to the venue like 40 minutes earlier than I had planned. D'oh! Thank god it wasn't raining or cold...so I hung out and talked with some cool people.

The first band was Dysrhythmia -- who reminded me of a more talented, tighter and freakin' harder Don Caballereo! Awesome music and well worth checking out. This three-piece had the crowd all energized with their amazing performance. All instro too!

The secnd band seemed to be who many of the jean-jacket or long hairs came out to see...Origin -- not bad if you're into Death Speed Metal. Frankly I find the stuff kinda funny and was having a good (internal) laugh at how intense the crowd got into them. This one dude totally freaked out, started to go all spastic then got on stage and did a dive...but everone parted like the red sea and the stagediving Moses hit the ground! Didn't phase him one bit and he then started to work the crowd. I guess if you're into the Death Speed Metal go see 'em.

Unsane (here and here)....hell's bells! I have waited for 15 years to see these guys and it was wwweeellll worth the wait -- and the loss of some of my hearing. Once the crowd split I made a beeline for the front of the stage and talked to this guy who was next to me wearing an Isis shirt -- which meant he was cool and damn if he wasn't. After the show he hands me his card and I come to find out he's a photographer with the Ford Modeling Agency. eeek Time to make some connections biggrin

Anyway, Unsane comes out and rips into a run of songs off of their new album...which, by the way, was handed out FREE with every ticket purchased! I'll review that bad boy later.

How can I describe their sound? It's hard...gritty and angry. Makes you feel grimy and wanting to commit crimes but the cool thing was that the crowd tended to be non-violent. Sure, I got bruised and spitted on, but that's fine with me.

The last 1/2 of the show had 'em playing "hits" from their other albums and the crowd went gonzo! Especially when they played "Scrape" and "Downtown"...jesus, had me freakin' out along with everyone else biggrin

So, overall an another amazing experience! Hot damn...

--> on a side-note, the gal I've been chatting up lately seems kinda interested in me, which is a nice change of pace. Also got eyeballed be 3 really good looking ladies at one point or another and as everyone knows, when someone hot gives you "they eye" (as compared to "the finger" or "mace")...well, it does wonders for your self confidence.
vixen:
Yay!!! You've gotta lady date! Woo! smile

I just hope that you get your hearing back soon... ha ha...

I did indeed walk in the rain with the dog. But Ry didnt come. I never put it in any of my entries that he is paralyzed. he had an accient while in the navy. Outings in the rain arent much fun for him, or so he says.

Have you gotten earplugs yet? The small kinds that are all foamy, if you put them in then you wont lose your hearing after a show. They sell them at hardware stores.

Do tell me more about the lady you have been chatting up. I need details. wink
