Oh man, wotta day.
You ever wake up and know it's going to be a good day, even when everything points to bad?
Work was pretty cool for once. Lately I've been able to flex my drawing skills and put my Masters to work. We're doing some really lame stuff, but hey, any excuse for me to draw and get paid for it is good enough for me.
Got a call and interview set up for some possible Art Director gigs. Woot! Get me outta the drab land and into sunny fun again!
Did anyone remember the Digital Destruction tour that hit Brooklyn last week? Yeah, me neither but I do remember posting about it at some point...somewhere! Anyway, this tour was a bunch of musicians from around the world doing digital 8-bit mixin' using nothing more than a bunch of GameBoys! These guys got everyone whipped into a frenzy and were so loud that the police raided the gallery, arrested the DJs and the gallery owner. CNN even covered it -- wacked out! watch video from the show!
check out this site for a sorts of 8-bit music.
Don't have a GameBoy to install the sequencer on? You can now do it using this excellent free app!
This stuff, while hard, is the child of the Digital Hardcore scene started by Alec Empire...who just happens to have a new album out today! I was lucky enough to see Atari Teenage Riot, Cobra Killers and the very awesome one-man freakout Shizo way back in '97. That was a true riot and everyone tore the Metro in Chicago apart! Haven't seen something like that in a while. RIP ATR.

I've talked about the difference of the erotic photos seen here on SG and the more interesting stuff I've encountered since working at Playboy. My recommendations are:
+ Motel Fetish -- Photography by Chas Ray Krider. Classic photograpy that needs to have some smoky, sultry music to go with it!
+ Tony Ward -- The works that photographer Tony Ward shoots are amazing. When I first saw his work the word that popped into my head was "smoldering". This stuff is hot, hot, hot!
+ Steve Diet Goedde has been one of the top "fetish" photographers for a bit less than 10 years. We did some work with him at Playboy and not only is he a brilliant photographer but a honestly down-to-earth guy. Plus the work that he did with someone I hung out with (Dita Von Teese) are fantastic!

Here's a recipe that I cooked up a while ago for a party I was catering. Hope you can enjoy it:
Blueberry Tart with White Chocolate Cream Cheese filling
6 phyllo dough sheets
2 oz. cream cheese, softened
2/3 c. white chocolate chips
2 tbsp. butter -- cut into small cubes, plus more more melting
1 tsp. vanilla bean paste
1/3 c. almond slivers -- toasted
2 c. fresh blueberries
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2. Layer phyllo dough sheets in a 9" tart pan. Brush pan first with melted butter then place one sheet around pan, forming to flutes. Brush sheet with butter and layer with another sheet of dough. Continue to do this until all sheets are used. Trim excess flush with top of tart pan.
3. Line bottom of tart pan with pie weights (or foil and dry beans) and bake for 10 Minutes. Remove weights / beans and cook for 5 minutes more. Remove and cool.
4. Place butter and white chocolate into a double boiler and melt. Remove and cool to room temperature. Note: if you don't have a double boiler, place a small amount of water into a pan, then set a glass / metal bowl over it and bring water to a light simmer. Do not boil otherwise the chocolate will seize..
5. Beat cheese in a medium-sized bowl until soft and slightly fluffy. Add chocolate and vanilla.
6. Line bottom of tart pan with the toasted almonds. Pour chocolate-cheese mixture over almonds and gently spread around.
7. Add blueberries in a pattern, starting from the outside. Once tart is filled with blueberries, gently press into the mixture.
8. Refridgerate. To serve, bring to near-room temperature and slice.
Enjoy!
