My Queers show experience.

The cast of characters for this adventure were Me, Andy, K, Penny, & Matt. The last 3 were really squeezed into the back of my car. We were on the road by 4:45. Took the Ben Franklin bridge right into center city Philadelphia. Parking on South Street was impossible. We had saw our friend Mike Shields by luck right near the venue so Andy got out to get in line and get tickets with him. After driving around again I said fuck it, let's find a parking garage which we did.

It was only a couple blocks to the Pontiac Grille where the show was being held. We met up with Andy and got in line. Turns out the place is on the 2nd floor up these narrow huge flight of stairs. We went up to check it out. The place was tiny. And I mean tiny. I don't think you could fit more than like 200 people squeezed in. Andy had wanted to check out his favorite store on South St. "Quakerhead". He heard it was closing down so he wanted one last buying spree. So we all go back down the tiny stairs onto South St.

It was pretty hectic out there. Well being a Friday night very understandable. It was my first time up there since probaly 1996-97. I definately want to go back when we have more time to actually walk around and have money to spend. We get to Quakerhead and OMG. Now I see why Andy thinks it's mecca! All kinds of Japanese toys, DVDs, stuff from the 70's. Incredible! I was watching a brand new "collectors copy" of the latest Godzilla flick straight from Japan. Andy ended up buying that and anime stuff. At least he found out they aren't closing for good, just relocating.

So now we had to go back to the car to stash the stuff. The kids went off to do their own thing. We get back and see them sitting on a stoop. They then got coffee at Starbucks and I got Andy and I gyros. OMG, I haven't had one in years. Don't know how dietetic it was but I sure did a lot of walking to negate it! We then made our way back to the show.

There was actually 4 bands instead of 3. So we missed the first one. We caught the 2nd act "Rock City Rebels" near the end of their set. They were pretty damn good. Even had horns for some of their songs. They really had the crowd going. Oh man, I forgot to mention how much of a fucking sweatbox the place turned out to be once it was packed. I mean take your breath away kinda hot. A real extreme from coming off the street. We were all near the back at first. The 3rd band, The Black Halos came on and everyone else made their way up towards the front. I had to stay away from the heat and the pit. The singer was cracking me up! He sounded just like Dee Dee Ramone when he spoke! They were not quite as good as the previous band but fun to listen to.

The crowd actually thinned out a little by the time The Queers came on. The opened up with "Rock And Roll Radio"! They played almost all the songs I know from the mix tape Andy made me. And now I know where Andy gets it from! They went into one song one right after another! I had a fun time in the back just bopping along. Matt had been kind enough to get me some bottled water so I was fine. Near the end of the set Andy came back and literally collapsed. I gave him the rest of my water and bought him a soda. He rested for awhile and went right back in! The Queers were awesome and definately was worth it. I swear they played like 30 songs. Even covered a Beach Boys song. It was a great show!

Afterwards we all gathered on the now rainy South St. Penny was already drenched. Him and K had made their way right up against the stage. Matt ended up getting bonked on the nose in the pit but was OK. The drive home was quite the adventure. I'm pretty bad as is driving at night. Add rain to the mix and it gets worse. We ended up almost in Camden and wound up having to take the Walt Whitman bridge back into to Philly to turn around and get us on the right track. All during the ride home Andy & I were talking non-stop about getting stuff to drink. I mean I was parched! I never wanted a beverage so much. We waited until we got near the home base and after we dropped the kids off. I ended up getting Hawaiian Punch and a liter Lipton ice tea. I never felt more grateful for a drink!

I can't wait to see this new 'Zilla flick later. Think I'll do that after this terrible day of work. The end.
