My show review...
American Legion Hall, Post 198 - Cape May Court House, NJ 2/18/05
I got there around 4:30 and Andy, Penny, K, Kite, Jackie, & a few others were already there setting up. The Raucous boys soon followed. I have to say I'd thought the building would be a bit bigger but it definately served it's purpose. After getting equipment in I took my place behind the table where we were selling our stuff. Pretty much stayed put the rest of the night.
Doors were scheduled to open at 6. We started getting people coming in soon after. By 6:30 when No Reason For Living was scheduled to start we had a nice crowd going. This was their 1st show out. Of course I know Shane & Jonny. Don't know the 2 guitarists & bass player. Was surprised to see Jonny just singing now. I thought they put on a damn good show. Yeah, A couple miscues here and there, but that's to be expected. Definately had a Metal-ish sound to them. I told Shane after the show to invest in better quality sticks. Cripes, He was breaking them left and right!
Inimica was scheduled next. In the between time I started selling a bit of the stuff. Funniest moment is when a dude bought an $8 shirt with a $100 bill!!! Had to friggin' struggle to come up with change to break that! They went on around 7:15 I really liked them too. Definately a change of pace with some songs even being a bit mellow. Thought it worked really well.
We definately had a hometown crowd come out. Jen, Zinah, Regan, Shields, Pancakes, Murdoch, Renee, etc. Kite being the master of ceremonies. Matt recording the whole thing on a digital recorder. They were the 2 birthday boys too. With Matt being that same day and Kite at midnight. Danielle from our work came out. As well as "Sheckla" and her friends. And much to my surprise Jessie came down! She hadn't seen us play before and it was her first time seeing me play since the Black Friday days. Ivan came out too. This guy is a friggin' legend! He's been punk rock before many of the kids were swimmin' in their dads sack!
Raucous came on a little after 8 and tore the place up!!! Had the most intense pit of the night break out while they were playing. The Raucous boys played a lot of new stuff to my ears and I dug it! Of course the played my favorite song where I punch myself in the head. Arrrrghhh!!!!
We went on a little after 9. Chuck was kind enough to let me use his kit. I just used a couple of my own cymbals. The first few songs took me a bit to warm up. My friggin' throat was so dry I was having trouble with the backing vocals. Finally I just starting gulping water between songs but couldn't swallow so I just spit it everywhere. By the time of "Neg Mofo" I was fully charged and way into it. The crowd was friggin' awesome!!! We had pits breaking out and cripes by the end we were letting them sing the songs!! Shane was a drunken mess knocking over speakers and unplugging the mike several times, But it was friggin' Punk rock!!!! No bullshit, That was the most fun I ever had at a show. The crowd made my night!! Thank you one and all!
Only bummer of the night is someone grabbed my mike stand so I nicked theirs in return! I'm sure we'll get it straightened out. Clean up went great. Another great thing about the crowd. Nothing damaged or broken. Even the legion guy was impressed. Looks like we'll be able to put on more shows. Much props to Kite and East Coast Zombies for putting this together. And thanks to the other bands for making it a kickass night!
The after show party was back at Jen's. I was having a great time at first with Jessie sitting on my knee while I was rubbing her back. Some other dude moved right in and took over. Bah! Like I had a chance anyway! Wasn't gonna let that ruin my mood. Got to share old war stories with her. Met alot of cool people as well as the usual gang of idiots. I proceeded to drink waaaaaay too much and wound up passing out. At least someone took pity on me and didn't draw on me with magic marker unlike a few others! Wound up leaving around 3:30. What a great fucking time the whole night was! Hope everyone had as much fun as I did!!!
