Damn, just realized I forgot to add another studio update. So shoot me! This is from the Sunday before last.

Fear & Loathing sessions - Day 5

Typical trip up, stop at the Wawa, you know the routine by now. Andy wanted to listen to everything to make sure it sounded tight. In the meantime I was checking out my fantasy football leagues (yes, I'm hopelessly addicted and will form a league next year if anyone is interested). He wound up doing a couple punch ins and did the main vocs for "Runaround". During the one part I said he reminded me of a dying yeti which set off everyone laughing. On the retake Phil chimed in "he sounds like a dying yeti being attacked by wolverines". So after much hilarity, he did get a damn good sounding take.

This was the hurtful session Andy says. Between the yeti remarks, them saying my beard trim makes me look like a beaver, to Phil getting upset how I said I hated him singing "I hate you too" during the original "Girls With Boyfriends", it was one putdown after another. Such is a studio session with the Sheckies!

Now it was time for the best part of recording, getting down our harmonies for the backing vocals. We just tried to wing it during "Girls With Boyfriends" but failed miserably. Then Phil reminded us how we used to do it, all sit around and practice our harmonizing while listening to the tape. This is when having Phil produce and record us pays off. He has a perfect ear for those Beatles & Beach Boy harmonies and gets us all in key and pitch in no time.

In previous sessions it was Andy, myself and Phil handled the majority of the background vocals. This time Penny will be involved since he has taken on the role of singing background vocs live. So now we have 4 part harmony stuff going on. And remember, this ain't no high tech recording studio. It's an 8 track recording so there isn't individual mics and tracks for everyone. It takes numorous takes to get where we should stand and what mic to sing into. So there was the 4 of us around 2 mics, I usually stand towards the back 'coz of my big mouth! But once we get that down, it sounds great!

"Stoopid Movie" was the next song and it took even longer to get down the harmonies and record it right. But again, it was worth the effort. By that point we were all getting tired and my throat was getting sore from all the singing. So in 3 1/2 hours, that's all we got. Again, we're taking our time with this. No rushing around, this will be the essential Sheckies CD!

We're going back up tomorrow night to work on it some more.

This is turning out to be a rather busy month for the band. Several shows are lined up. One is for a fan's birthday. We're invading a nice Italian resteraunt for the occassion. Should be interesting to say the least. My bassist Penny is also hard at work on a Sheckies DVD. Should be pretty funny.

I saw The Queers last night in Philly with my bandmates, their girlfriends, and other pals. Joe Queer greeted us with a hug. He says he's gonna sing backing vocs on the next album, I said you might as well produce it. Ah, that would be the shit. Was a great show that was filmed for an upcoming DVD release. Hope all the footage shot last night makes the cut!
