My b-day show, Hurricane East, Wildwood, NJ 1/31/06
I really had a great time with the closest of my friends among the local lunatics. Full of fun and surprises!
I had a pretty low key day full of my usual routine of internet surfing and Madden playing. The postman brought me a most wonderful package from my Cindy. The box was huge! I was wondering what surprises awaited me. After opening it up and removing the packing material, I opened my card 1st. It was originally for a 4 year old, only thing different was she added an "oh!". That should've been a clue to what was in there.
The first gift I opened was a scented "home for the holidays" Yankee candle. It really does smell like Xmas morning! I then opened up the remainder of the gifts, each with it's own little stick on label. I went for a package titled "E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!" figuring it was a related merchandise or something. It turned out to be a table top football game. Kinda a variation of the old "paper football" game I've played in school. Each gift opened was another childhood surprise. A retro Slinky, Wooly Willy, Gumby & Pokey bendies, that magnetic wheelie thingy (which of course I had trouble working). I really loved the theme she was going for, a kid at Xmas. It was perfect! Almost a goodbye to childhood as I enter this middle age. It was great!
Fast foward to the gig details...
Penny & K stopped by to pick up his gear for the show around 7:30. K made me an awesome little homemade collage b-day card. I really loved it! If I couldn't have a petite model at least there was one on the back along with Meg White. As soon as they left, Andy stopped by along with Freaky Frank and the guitarist from Xyile (South Jersey's own extreme Doom Metal band). Andy got his stuff and off we went. Oh, Pvt. Dick wasn't able to make the show to sit in with us 'coz of being really sick, hope he gets well!
The regular Hurricane staff was there to great us and wish me a happy b-day. I went up to the pool table to hang out with the kids. Slowly but surely all our friends started filing in. Kite & Jackie, "My Son" & Renee, Murdoch, Matt. Jessie brought Prudence (who came all the way up from Baltimore), several of my co-workers (Debbie, Diane, Lulu & hubby, Lala, Tiff and Lexus), several more of the local lunatics. Jen, Zinah, & Pat came in with the most awesome present...a gift basket filled the 3 perfect items for me. Porno mags, Beer, & Hot sauces! I also have to thank Kite & Jackie for the porno DVD as well as my co-workers who brought in a cake, card, & balloon for me. The night really took on the feeling of a private party with my closest of friends.
The Raucous boys played first and played a great set. The lovely Raucous cheerleaders made an apperance. And at the end of their set they all came out with several cakes. Next thing I knew I was getting smashed in the chest with them and icing smeared all over my face. Hey, at least I got an icing "brumsky" from Amber! I do appreciate the fact I was tipped off early and had a change of clothes ready. I ended up using the ladies room 'coz of no mirror in the mens room. The cheerleaders didn't mind and I'm blind as a bat without my glasses anyway so they were safe.
It was now getting pretty late. They wanted us to go on at Midnight but a lot of my friends have work in the morning so we went onstage at 11:45. We probaly had the longest intro ever as I wanted to thank everyone for showing up to spend with me on my b-day. We kicked off with "Girls With Boyfriends" and away we went. Most off our friends and the Raucous boys spent time down front dancing away. K had told me we had a request for "Raining" from a girl named Jess who comes to a lot of the shows so we broke that out for the first time in forever. I had the Raucous boys come up to sing "Neg Mofo" with us. Jimmy Wagner came up to take it back to the old days to sing "Shit Happens" & "Heroin" with us. Andy played a real old original "Dreams Of You" for the 1st time as a b-day gift 'coz that song tears his voice up. A nice fun set and couldn't think of better thing to be doing on my b-day!
Man, I was pretty beat after the show being sick yet again. I did try to go to everyone and personally thank them for coming out. Finally got to say thanks to April & Jess for always coming out for the support. Didn't even recognize Aubrey who I hadn't seen in like 10 years! I really do appreciate the people coming out. There were a couple no shows, but then again, I rather spend time with the diehards anyway. Ended up going over to Kite & Murdoch's for a small aftershow get together, but by this point exhaustion and sickness were really setting in so I didn't stay long. Thanks again everyone!!
