Never turn your back on a four year old with safety scissors and a need for chocolate. I woke up this morning and got the kid up to get her ready for school, dodging the arts and craft supplies scattered all over the floor thinking "I'll clean it up later". I got the kid bathed and dressed for school, made breakfast, made her lunch and jumped in the shower myself to start the day. Pretty normal start to a pretty normal day. I get out of the shower, get dressed, not quite placing the unusual silence from the living room. As I turned the corner, the first thing that caught my eye was the tell tale brown Hershey bar wrappers now littering the floor of the living room, then I saw my daughter.... mouth crammed full of Hershey bars, the look of total shock on her face, and the wheels in her mind turning fast to come up with an explanation for the deed. Out of a six pack of Hershey bars, only two lone soldiers remain, survivors of an early morning feeding frenzy of a four year old. She gazed up at me with regret in her eyes. Regret not for the deed, but regret for not timing it quite right to have the evidence cleaned up by now. She stared at me for a few seconds, hoping to get a reading from my expression so that she could plan her next move. Then she smiled, and thats all it took for me to forgive and forget. I couldnt help but to laugh out loud at the whole scene. The following ten minutes were spent going over the whole "ask and ye shall receive" (within reason) bit and letting her know the potential consequences of actions such as that. All was well with the universe, especially for the fact that its now daycares problem and not mine and her mom works at the daycare center. All I know is that when that sugar kicks in, I dont want to be anywhere near the chaos that will ensue.
That was just the beginning of a wonderful day. I received a couple of unexpected emails this morning, the kind that just make a persons day and that you have to reread and revisit just to keep that nice feeling alive and well. To the person who sent these to me (you know who you are) thanks a million; I meant every word that I said in the reply
Peace, Love and Joy to all of you. (A six pack to those of you who would rather have that instead)
