Vibrators.
Apparently* the first vibrators were made by HamiltonBeach at the turn of the 20th Century. They were specifically made for doctors, and with special 'probes' (i.e. Dildos) which only the lucky docs could order.
They were used on women suffering from hyseteria, because it was belived at the time that a womans utterous floated freely around the body, and a deliquent utterous was the cause of hypertension, fainting and mood swings (aka hysteria in the early (and some would say late)1900s). So a woamn would go to the doctor and he would instrer the Vibrator until she came, thus curing the hysteria. I guess the doctors though they were re-aligining the ole box.
One has to wonder though how many more cases of hysteria developed after the side effects became known? Especially in such a patriachial society as that era when a true orgasim for many women would be akin to a religious experiance.
