People's "enlightened" ignorance is really starting to annoy me. All these new wave "let's fight for underprivileged people everywhere" crowd just demonstrate how little they know about the world. Saw an article today about how Afghanistan still has a "long way to go" with women's rights. yes, duh, and you fancy ass people aren't going to change it. Their culture doesn't place an emphasis on women, and isn't that ignorant and insensitive to assume that you can change their way of life? Sure, you can disagree with it because it doesn't square with your Western culture but let me tell ya, one of the reasons why many in the Muslim world HATE Americans is because we parade around trying to change their worlds to match what we want them to have. It creates resentment and anger. It's construed as disrespectful and disrespect here is handled with violence. So remember when everyone was angry about Bush parading around changing the world? You hippie folk are doing the exact same thing with your "human rights" campaigns and the like. Do you know what happens to girls who try to emulate Western ways? Most commonly they get beaten and fall back in line; However we've seen the extreme examples of honor killings as well. You, hippie lady, also contributed to that.

I'm no anthropologist, but i have spent several years of my life in Iraq and Afghanistan (the latter with the Afghans intimately) so I think i have a decent point of view. People need to realize their limitations and stay in their lane.
