You know, thank God for the abundance of technology that is out there today.
In 2003, with the war in iraq, the only way to contact loved ones back home was via phones with super slow connections and a max 15 minute talk time. You could wait in line for the few computers that were available, but lines were long with another 15 minute limit and sketchy connection. Mail would take in excess of a month to go to and fro.
The gulf war was worse. The internet was brand new. Phones were scarce. Primary mode of correspondence was snail mail, with really long turn over time.
Vietnam, Korea, WWII, WWi...you had snail mail. it could take up to 3 months to get a letter.
I spend about 2 or 3 hours a night on the internet in my CHU. I live in an insulated enclosure with A/C, internet and plenty of reliable power. Phones are plentiful and i can even get an iraqi cell phone. The internet connection is good enough i can use Skype with my wife nightly.
God bless America, and all of its technology. War has never been so...comfortable?
