Oh man, so I was so excited for this show that we were going to get a chance to play with Undying, which happened last night. It ended up possibly being one of the most unexpected nights of my life.
So here's how it was SUPPOSED to happen: I go to my first class at 2:30, then leave around 3, get to the show (which is outside of Pittsburgh) at about 5:30. I would drop of equipment and then drive into pittsburgh and pick up penny and my friend who goes to Pitt. Following the show I would take them, along with the cello player from our band and mykdru and we were going to go check out the SG Pittsburgh party. All in all a pretty fun day planned...
Ok, so this was all planned before we realized that the biggest fucking blizzard ever decided to pop up in the middle of central PA. I was driving, and besides the tailights of the guy in front of me, it looked like I was staring at a blank piece of paper. My car lucked out (besides the fact that I scared about 10 years off of mykdru's life), but the rest of band didn't have as much luck - with our drummer doing a 180 on the highway, and our singer getting pulled over. So instead of the nice 5:30 time I was getting there...I get there at 7:30. To make it even better, when we get there, we find out that Undying won't be playing because their drummer is super sick in the van. Not to mention that the band that was going on only had 2 more songs left, and then we were headlinging. So basically we drove about 4 hours (our poor singer drove from Philly which took 5) and we played as soon as we got there, and then the show was done. There were like no kids there, and the ones who were there were there to see "chugga chugga" bands and not us. Ah well, I still had a ball playing.
So we finish up, pack up, and the rest of the band heads home. We then finished off the night by going to a bar where the SG Pittsburgh crew was meeting. We finally picked up penny, who I was unable to get for the show, and I got to meet all of these kids whos posts I've been reading for the passed couple months. They all seemed very nice - since it was a bar and loud I didn't get a chance to meet as many of them personally as I would have liked, but I finally got to meet Hel and she was super cool. So I just talked about dorky stuff with her the whole night and a ton of fun doing it. After last call we went back to penny's for a little bit before making the long haul back home.
So when I rolled back into State College at 6 AM, I kept thinking about how freaking strange the last 14 hours had been - it didn't turn out anything like I expected, but I think it definitely worked out for the best.
