well it's been a month, so i figure i'm due for another update. here's life so far:
the battle of the bands
so we got invited to play battle of the bands. real shady, it's at 9pm on a wednesday night. eh, oh well, it's a show, what the hell. so we show up, and it is explained to us that there are 7 bands playing, and that they want to be done by 11pm....7 bands in 2 hours.....well, 1.5 hours since the sound guy is now late. so it is understood that everyone will only play 2 songs. since our singer had to be up at 5 am the next day for work, we say that we don't want to play last. they put us on second to last.
we then listen to the other bands playing. now, we knew by what people were wearing that we didn't fit in exactly but holy crap it wasn't until they started playing that we realized just how well we were NOT going to fit in with this crowd. there was the ska band. and the "jam" band. and the "we sort of sound like the strokes but we're still in high school" band. and then a million acoustic rock acts. the crowd is eating them up. so whatever, it's something to do, we decide we'll have fun and rock out extra hard. it's our turn and we go and play our little hearts out. (3 guitar flips! i'm a god!). the audience is left speechless. one guy in the front air drums the whole time. we don't stop between songs and play through 3 (cause we're rebels). whatever, no one looked at us as we wheeled our stuff off the stage. since we were all beat we figured that we'd stick around to laugh at the winner announcements (the running joke was "we need to wait to hear our name called"). so when the judges totalled their scores, who was the winner of the battle of the bands. stab! stab! motherfucking stab!, baby. ha ha ha, yup, we won that bitch.
our prize: $100 and an opening slot on this festival that is taking place april 10th (tomorrow as i'm writing this).........at noon. ha ha ha, where could we be more out of place than at an outside show at NOON on a saturday.....ah well, should be another good time. you'll be sure to hear about it here.
